Vicarage Notes

Thought for the month

In an act of suffering, the love of God was brought to our short-lived world. The altar cross reminds us that the promises of God are offered to us by the outstretched arms of the crucified.

The life of Jesus of Nazareth was part of an often-suffering world. It never ceases to amaze me that it is often those who suffer most who exemplify the greater love and peace. At Passiontide and Easter, suffering accompanies the victory that the Christian Faith sees in the resurrection.

Almighty God, who through thine only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, hast overcome death, and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life.

So proclaims the collect (special prayer) for Easter Day; may the church join faithfully in saying those words.

There is, of course, a special welcome to the special services over Holy Week and Easter, and also, if you’re feeling patriotic, a welcome over the hill at Brailes for St. George – I promise a good sing with “Jerusalem” and “I vow to thee”.

God bless
