WI Report

Our Show was well supported with more than 90 entries submitted by 19 members.  As expected, the standards were high.  We all enjoyed admiring the range of skills on show at the evening meeting, and reading the carefully made judge's comments in the floral and craft categories.  Prizewinners were:

Cookery - Pam, Belinda, Ann

Preserves - Ann

Floral - Belinda, Ann

Craft/miscellaneous - Belinda

Belinda was presented with the Sheila Brinkley rose bowl as the overall winner.

After a review of the 90th birthday celebrations and a report from the Spring Council, June presented this year's resolution "to urge H.M. Government to stop the closure of community hospitals, which provide essential services to local people."   June's research indicated that there was no immediate local problem, but that a Warwickshire review was due in October 2007.

Points raised in discussion:

Nationally, the funding provided, accounted for and pledged for the rebuilding and refurbishment of community hospitals didn't seem to add up.  The argument presented was not balanced.  It seems another rural v urban call on funding.

We voted unanimously in favour of the resolution.

Refreshments served by Belinda and Ann included a slice of celebration cake.
