Vicarage Notes

Thought for the month

I needed new specs last month, and as I explained to the optician it would be good to have a reading lens for close work, clergy desk and altar.  “Can’t be done, you’ll need to choose your focus” she advised.  That sounded the ideal text for the next Sunday – choose your focus!  We are all sidetracked by the busyness of the world and the Christianity is under mounting pressure.  As pilgrims, we need a clear focus and steadfast faith!

St. Lawrence

Dear Lawrence doesn’t get much of a look-in in the village agenda partly because his feast day is in the holiday month of August (10th).  However, we will be marking the occasion with a Patronal Festival Songs of Praise on August 8th at 6.30 p.m.  All are warmly invited, and ideas for making the service extra special (including hymn requests) will be warmly received.

Special Thanks

Congratulations to Lilian Welsby, the social and fund-raising committee and all the team who worked so hard to make the Scarecrow Weekend a huge success.  A great deal of hard work goes into what is maybe the largest regular village event in the area, and Lilian shoulders the organiser’s responsibilities.  Well done, everyone, and many thanks for all the co-operation that comes from the whole village!!

God bless,
