Vicarage Notes

Dear friends,

Holy Week and Easter

April starts on Palm Sunday – the crowd gathers to welcome Jesus as a King with cries of “Hosanna”. That acclamation is soured as the crowd is swayed and the cries change to “crucify”. It amazes me that some of the finest music and art through the ages has been inspired by the changing moods of Holy Week – it has simply affected people so much. However, as we are drawn to the Cross so we are also lifted by it from earth to heaven – and our churches are transformed by the joy, love and hope of Easter.

The Church Annual Meeting

This takes place on Tuesday April 24th at 7.30pm in Church. As usual it will include the presentation of the annual accounts, the various reports and elections and an opportunity for anyone to ask questions about St.Lawrence’s or to bring forward ideas for future PCC agendas. Do come if you can. Wine will be served!

The Cathedral’s 50th anniversary

Coventry Cathedral is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its consecration – perhaps some of you were there! A range of events is planned and details will found on the flyers at the back of Church. The official service is on May 25th , with the Archbishop of Canterbury preaching in the Cathedral and a “senior member” of the Royal Family representing the Queen. The Archbishop will be staying in the Diocese for the weekend and will be preaching at a 9.30am Communion Service at Tredington, to which all are invited. May 27th is, however, Whitsunday and there will be the usual 9.30am Communion here for those unable to go to Tredington or preferring to worhip in the Parish Church.

Best wishes and God bless,
