Deanery News

Dear Friends,

Pentecost Eucharist at Tredington

'Sunday was wonderful, can't stop singing: truly wonderful: wonderful to come together and worship: an occasion to remember with joy'.

It was indeed wonderful, to celebrate Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit, with the Archbishop of Canterbury preaching, and the Bishop of Coventry leading the service. We had prayed that everyone would come together in deed and worship, and that is exactly what happened. Hundreds played their part: they arranged chairs, cut the grass, made sashes, made and served cakes and drinks, sung in the choir, stewarded throughout the service, arranged flowers, and lent us their silverware - and then tidied up afterwards. And a thousand other things besides. Thank you everyone.

'Fill us with your Spirit' was a constant prayer during the service: Julian Harris wrote 'a nugget of a tune' for those words, which grew into the most wonderful music which was such an integral part of the service. The Archbishop's words touched and inspired so many, in many different ways. 'It felt,' said one 'like a shot in the arm'. God's Holy Spirit was indeed poured afresh upon us.

'Fill us with your Spirit' is our on-going prayer for this Deanery, that, back in our homes and villages and places of worship, the Holy Spirit will empower us anew, to take God's love wherever we go.

The next Deanery Synod will be on Tuesday, July 17th (postponed from June), at 7.30pm at Whatcote. Martin Kirkbride, Diocesan Learning Advisor, will talk about the new format of the Bishop’s Certificate in Discipleship.

Finally, the Deanery Garden Party will once again be happening at The Old House, Oxhill, on Saturday August 4th between 3 and 5pm. This year any funds raised will be used to support parish ministry in some of the most financially deprived parts of our diocese. Everyone from the Deanery is welcome: gifts of cake are welcome too!

Every blessing, Jill
