Garden Club

Adrian James took us on a virtual tour with his wonderful slideshow of gardens which for the most part, are either far away or less well known.

Our tour started in Spain at the Alhambra palace with it’s peaceful courtyard gardens ideal for quiet reflection, then on to Westonbirt Arboretum for splendid Autumn colour among the Acers and Maples some of which were lit, seeming to turn them into dazzling fireworks. Next to the Exotic Garden in Norwich city centre where we saw pictures of plants with strange shapes and textures. Longstock Water Garden provided pictures of wonderful reflections. This garden was formed following excavations which filled up with water from the River test and resulted in many pools and lakes. It is especially attractive at water lily time.

Then to a contrasting garden at Bosvigo near Truro, Cornwall, a garden of many “rooms” similar to Hidcote.

Finally we had pictures of “oddities” including sculptures by Barbara Hepworth and the giant at Heligan.

Adrian has created a new garden at his home in Offenham which will be open under the NGS scheme first w/e in August.
