WOT2Grow - Your Community Orchard

What a great summer we are having! The sun has been great for the fruit at the orchard but does mean that the summer fruit has just about finished. Luckily the autumn raspberries are coming into their own so we will have lots more fruit for members and other beneficiaries. The rain from the remnants of hurricane Bertha whilst inconvenient has recharged the trees and canes and we are very grateful as it means we don't have to water by hand.

This year we have quite a lot of fruit set on the trees – not enough to distribute to the members but an inkling of what is to come as the trees get bigger and stronger. We have apples, damsons, greengages, quince, medlars and one cider apple tree with two apples! The birds are having a field day so we need to look at how to protect the fruit  - hanging CDs in the trees is a possibility!

Don't forget our Open Sunday with Cream Teas on Sunday September 14th from 2:00pm with jam from the orchard fruit, honey from our bees and home made cakes for sale!

Also the great Apple Day on October 11th from 1:30 at the orchard when amongst other things you can get some juice or bring apples to get your own juice.

Do come along and see how well your orchard is doing. It is thanks to all the volunteers that things are going well as there is a lot of work involved in ensuring the orchard is maintained to such a high standard.

If you would like to join us/ find out more do come along to one of our sessions on a Wednesday at 10:00 and a Sunday at 2:00 or contact one of the team
