Horton Stone Slabs

Many of you will remember the old Hornton stone pavement that ran along part of main street.  The slabs were removed because of health and safety and were going to be dumped.  Fortunately I managed to save them and get them stored within the village.  A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by a stonemason working on Hook Norton Church who purchased five slabs for their porch and paid £250.00 to the Parish Council.  This will go towards a project to put some extra planters and a new bench by the phone box in an attempt to prevent vehicles parking on the pavement there and blocking the view for cars emerging from Back Lane.  It will also provide seating for mothers and children waiting for the school bus.

There are still plenty of stone slabs available at approximately £50 each – reclamation yards currently charge £70 to £80 each.  This particular stone is now quarried out, so if you want a part of old Oxhill, please contact me on 680664.
