Oxhill Garden Club We had a very pleasant evening at the end of June entertaining gardeners from Radway. We strolled around the gardens of six brave volunteers and ended up in the garden of Jill Tucker for refreshments. During July the club visited the Abbey Gardens, Malmesbury and were far from disappointed. They (and their naked gardening owners!) have been shown on television but the gardens at least were even better in the flesh. There were about 2000 roses in bloom and the herbaceous borders certainly had the wow factor. Last week the club visited the gardens of Mrs Shacklock in Long Compton. She had been one of our most popular speakers last year with her talk on the restoration of her garden. Not only were the gardens extremely interesting but also the meal at the local pub afterwards was much enjoyed. Our next event before resuming our Thursday evening meetings in the Village Hall in September will be the Garden Party. This year it is being held in my garden in Church Lane on Thursday August 18th at 7p.m. – lets hope that the rains have stopped by then. Heather Brennan, Secretary |
